AKB48 General Election 2018 was held yesterday. After the General Election, HKT48 member and the 3rd place winner Miyawaki Sakura sent a mobile mail to her fans, and thanks her fans voting her, and apologizes to her fans that she was unable to accomplish bringing the crown back to Fukuoka.

Moreover, Miyawaki Sakura's mobile mail also implied she will not participate in AKB48 General Election anymore. Before the General Election, the HKT48 member has already told her fans General Election 2018 was her last General Election, but she did not assure it. Below are her mobile mail's translation:

Theme: Promise

From now on, I will not say sorry again, but let me say it once again, this is the last time.

I can not succeed the 1st place, sorry.
I can not protect you all's smile, sorry.
I was crying terribly during General Election speech, sorry.
I was absent from handshake event today, sorry.
I let many fans to say sorry to me, sorry.

But I have to make it clear I cried not because not winning No. 1, therefore please don't say sorry to me anymore. The reason why I cried, I can not tell you clearly. There are a lot of things you can not see at your point of view. However I can not tell you the truth, I am sorry. I made a decision no matter what I will face in the future, I will deal with it in my way, with smile. So, please don't say sorry, let's make a promise we not say sorry to each other again.

While I heard the votes, I was really happy. All of you really wanted to vote me to be the first place. I really feel it, really really happy.
My General Election career was full of joy, I could move forward with all of you, really happy.
From next year, I will be supporting other members. Thank you very much.

HKT48 members sincerely wished me to get the No. 1, cried for me, gave me lot of supports and replied via Twitter, for those, I really think it was meaningful participate in this year's General Election.

Thank you very much, I like all of you.

I really really like this post p.p Shows, that there is more to it than a simple ranking. And i love the part, in which she says, that she wants to deal with what happened and what is to come with a smile :) I think she really has a way with words, and her votes almost doubled from last year, so that is a pretty big accomplishement :)

Team 8 Yokoyama Yui has been performing well for years, including being a regular on a TV show. Her team has won the AKB 48 dabe contest both times it was held. She is a leading member of team 8 with concurrency to Team K. In spite of this she has remained unranked at every election. Funny to see others crying when they are Kami 7 over and over.

She is guaranteed a position in Produce48 which is so much more bigger in popularity than 48G so there's nothing to lose tbh (well her group's pride probably)

@Kenta maybe because the pressures were huge compare to those who never ranked. Like if you never ranked, you wished for it but if you didn't get it you just like "oh well". Also Jurina represents SKE Sakura represents HKT Ogiyuka represents NGT Naachan represents STU and Team 4 Yuihan represents AKB and for Dasu & Tomu they're happy tears.
Look at how frustrated Mirurun was as the new ace of NMB but failed to ranked in Senbatsu (Akarin is not ace)

I always wonder to people that said KPOP > JPOP and now Produce > 48 group, based on what??? ????

According to IFPI 2017 data Korean physical music market only worth US$ 182m, compared to US$ 1.96b Japanese physical music market value the Korean not even worth 10% of the Japanese market value
For that reason the Japanese don’t even bother to make Korean version of their single or album, that’s also the reason why we have Japanese version of Korean music

We also know 48 group sell millions of single and album every year, if you want to say Produce are bigger please provide the number to accompany your claim

KPOP fans are loud, unfortunately being loud doesn’t matter much if you don’t have the number ????

@ekop I said popularity who said market?

  • Comment Link Boke Wednesday, 20 June 2018 07:24 posted by Boke

It's not about popularity, it's about what's trending.

I still believe 48G has bigger popularity

  • Comment Link ekop Wednesday, 20 June 2018 08:48 posted by ekop

How do you quantize popularity without any number???
You can't sell anything if people don't know your product
That's why companies advertise their products

Like many other overseas fans I bought Japanese version singles and albums
All of the overseas fans purchases are eventually reflected in Japanese sales and market value

Produce48 IS an advertisement for Produce101 using 48 girls, Produce want to take a shot to 48 fans wallet
It's no different with countless other advertisement perform by 48 group for various products from various companies

Tuberose is blind. That's pretty much it.

I've been Jpop fan longer than Kpop, but I'm not biased. I know Japan is the second biggest market in the world only behind the states, but to say Jpop (and 48G) is more 'popular' than Kpop? That's what I call blinded by their own ego. You want the number (of the popularity)? There's tons out there to prove the popularity of Kpop, heck instagram twitter and all the other social media platform are there as the evidences. Kpop constantly being featured in International media from TV to magazine this past few years, Jpop is more exclusive and sell better thanks to variety of gimmicks and Japanese people culture that still appreciate physical album.
And again, I said POPULARITY not SALES. Go to any Jpop forum talking about Produce48 (even Stage48) you will see that the Jpop fans knows about Kpop but the Kpop fans basically have little to no knowledge about 48G.
Countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Manila (China and Taiwan are exception since they're more familiar with Japanese culture), before the establishment of 48G in their country, most of the people there outside of Japanese wota (which was probably just a small number) knows nothing about 48G too. Even today there's still so many people in those countries accused the sister groups are plagiarism of Japan48, surprise?

I will say this again. In term of market, yes, AKB48G and Jpop as a whole is doing better, but you're in denial if you think Jpop is more popular than Kpop.

Also if you want the number in sales, just look at the RECENT Japanese charts like Oricon. Kpop is gradually ruling over their own artist (eg BTS iKon Twice Blackpink), I won't be surprised if the young people in Japan these days can name all Twice members but can't name more than 5 48G member (well probably they can name at least 5 Top Nogizaka members tho).

I think she made a deal with the 4 girls on Team KIV who didn't run this year. A "you don't run this year and so your fans will vote for me, then next year I don't run and my fans will vote for you"-- it isn't the first time that it seems like member hatched such a plan, but it never seems to work out. Probably doesn't stop them from trying though, because they don't seem to understand how the election works well.

I think actually openly endorsing other members is against the rules. So they couldn't really go all out.

Anyway, if she did make a deal like that with the other girls, then by losing like this means that she got them to throw away their chance to be in the election this year. 2 or 3 of those 4 would have ranked in had they run. This means they don't get to be on the single, they didn't get to appear on the show the next day, they don't get to be in the concert in a few months, and they may be subject to other punishments for refusing to participate in this event. The company may pull opportunities from them that it otherwise would have offered.

And it was all for nothing. SKE had too great of an advantage this year.

That would make what she said here true, and also explain why she can't talk about it.

It is at least as plausible as it having to do anything with PD48 where she is #1 by a huge margin and the chosen center.

Sakura will join with with Yukirin, Sayanee, and Sashi to permanently skip the senbatsu election. These are some of the most senior top stars of AKB group. This is not a good sign for the Senbatsu process. It does improve Jurina's chance to repeat if she is still a member.

For those arguing about Jpop vs Kpop, you are missing the point that Kpop has aggressively sought to export itself beyond Korea because it is indeed a relatively small market. If you are talking about global brand awareness between Kpop acts and Jpop acts, Kpop wins by far. The size and profitability of the Japanese market is its trap in not being as successful as Kpop globally. Produce 48 has been a gateway to 48G for people all over the world. I myself is a prime example. Until Produce 48 I had no awareness of 48G. Now I am hooked, and Kpop groups are a distant 2nd for me, and I doubt I am alone. Once people learn more about 48G they will fall for them as well. So if 48G and individual members like Sakura can benefit from hitching on to the global Kpop machine then good, because Akimoto has done nothing to promote 48G and members like Sakura globally.
