AKB48 becomes Best-selling female music artist in Japan

According to ORICON News, Total sales of CDs (Single + Album) of Japanese national idol group AKB48 have reached approximately 51,298,000 copies.

AKB48’s latest single #SukiNanda arrived at CD stores last week and sold 1,089,288 copies and topped the weekly chart, AKB48's total sales have surpassed 51 million copies, and it breaks the sales record of Hamasaki Ayumi, becomes best-selling female music artist in Japan.

1st place - AKB48 (approximately 51,298,000 copies)
2nd place - Hamasaki Ayumi (approximately 50,675,000 copies)
3rd place - Matsutoya Yumi (approximately 39,581,000 copies)

1st place - B'z (approximately 82,339,000 copies)
2nd place - Mr. Children (approximately 59,535,000 copies)
3rd place - AKB48 (approximately 51,298,000 copies)

    I don't think they can break Bz record but they will break Mr. Children waiting for people to get mad for it.

    B'z record will be hard to break.
    AKB releases 4 singles a year, so that's roughly around 4m singles sold a year. That would mean it'll take a little over 7 years to beat 82.3m, and that's assuming AKB doesn't decline within those years.
