AKB48 Team B captain Takahashi Juri announced her graduation from AKB48 during birthday LIVE ceremony at AKB48 Theater on 4 March 2019. The AKB48 member and former Produce 48 contestant told her fans the she signed a contract with South Korean agency WOOLLIM Entertainment, and will continue her career in South Korea.

Takahashi Juri was one of AKB48's future stars and leaders among AKB48 new generation. The 21 year old idol joined AKB48 in 2011 as the group's 12th generation research student, and promoted to official members in 2012. While she join the idol group, her dream was to become an actress, she made appearance in several TV dramas and stage plays.

On the other hand, Takahashi Juri had been regarded as a potential 3rd generation general director of whole AKB48 group, she was appointed to be Team 4 captain in 2015, and then she was appointed to be Team B captain in 2017, however, to members and fans' surprise, the management finally picked the group's next generation ace Mukaichi Mion as the group's 3rd general director. Before AKS' official announcement of appointing Mukaichi Mion, Takahashi Juri decided to participate in AKB48 x Mnet's competition television show PRODUCE48, her performance was great during the show, and appeared in final game, she was ranked the 16th place finally.

There is something very wrong with AKB48 when one of the prominent member who have ranked as senbatsu in the last threee senbatsu sousenkyo, decide to graduate and then will debut in Korea.

    hmnd: why should be?
by that logic, nobody should graduate after a good election outing.
by that logic, theres something wrong with akb back when mayuyu, acchan graduated

she probably saw more opportunity more up north,
being senbatsu in election doesnt mean jack when youve got more lucrative offer elsewhere.

This happened because of mion got elected or Mion got elected because of Juri wants to try become kpop idol

Hmnd, it might be that that Korean entertainers actually get to keep some of the money they rake in.

For a girl who loves the high end of idol groups, the AKB standards of performance, material and dress are easily outgrown. AKB has no place for those idols that want to challenge themselves and raise their skill level. AKB fans are more interested in the individual girls, their stories, their struggles, and their efforts to improve themselves than they are interested in top notch songs, singing and dance. Some AKB members have the potential to be world class idols, but they will never get there in AKB. Bravo to Juri. She has seized the moment. If she is successful she will show that there is a path for those who are not happy with things as they are.

Not because of the graduation, but Juri graduate from AKB48 to debut in Korea. If she graduate from AKB48 and continue her career in Japan entertainment industry like become an actress like Acchan, Yuko, or Ricchan, nobody would bat an eye. But Juri leave her stable career in AKB48 to start from zero in kpop. She is one of the prominent member of AKB48 and has ranked in senbatsu in the last three senbatsu souseknyo. If Juri isn't popular like for example, Takeuchi Miyu (I like Miyu but she isn't really popular), maybe the news won't be as shocking. There should be something going on in 48G, including the problem in NGT48, that make Juri decide to graduate and move to korean music industry. I don't think this has ever happened before. There are some girl groups in kpop like Twice who has members from Japan (Sana,Mina, and Momo) or the new group Cherry Bullet (Kokoro, May, and Remi) but never before 48G graduate member especially as prominent as Juri joined as member of kpop girl group.

I think a lot of people forget that the members do get paid. Not much if your a theater girl but decently if you're not. Juri was a Senbatsu member, girl got paid. Juri made it clear she wanted to be higher on the food chain, being captain of a team doesn't mean much unless it's team A [they dont promote just anyone to A] but she didn't get that. In fact she didn't get anything- Naachan got STU48 and a center single, Mion got GM and a center single, Berin got Team A captain, and Yuiyui is the new current ace. The only reason I could see for Juri to stay is to take Mion's place as a center candidate since she failed. If anyone noicted once you're GM you're done as prime center, which is maybe why they didn't choose Naachan or Juri.
Ranking in elections means shit all. Look at Dasu. If management doesn't like you they just dont like you. If one of the girls were to pull a sasshi or even do what oginyuka [go from unranked to kami7] did a couple years ago then management would care.

Also K-pop idols dont get paid that much if at all, especially if they're not popular. Too many ex idols have stated this fact, aks is crap in most ways but kpop is a whole different level of crazy.

Correction: she reached the final in Produce 48. She just didn't make it into the group.

I admire Juri for taking a BIG gamble. It's no just a gamble, it's BIG as the risks are high on this. Not everyone will take that risk given the same circumstances and opportunity. She is one of the big guns of AKB, a Team B captain and was a former Team 4 captain, a regular senbatsu member, ranks on the top 16 of general election for three consecutive years (I say 4th year if she did not announce her graduation and still participate this year). She has an established career in AKB. And she's throwing all of that away and taking the risk to pursue her kpop dream and have a fresh start.

Juri is my oshi and was the first AKB48 member that I followed and supported from Kenkyuusei to becoming one of AKB's big guns. This graduation announcement is painful for me but I will still be happy for her and wish her a strong and successful debut in Korea.

Also, I think her joining PD48 last year was not the main reason why the management did not chose her as the next GM. I think the management want as the next GM is someone that will not talk against them when there is an issue. They want someone that they can control. Juri is known for being outspoken and free minded and the management fears that she may go against them on some decisions that they make.

@Sakimaaai Yes, Kpop idols don't get paid or get little pay if the group fails to take off. However, if your group becomes really popular (which could happen to Juri's group, who knows) then the payoff would be really huge. Just like those groups from the Big 3 and Big Hit. That's why so many are willing to take a chance. I think Juri knows that too. She knows much about the Kpop industry so I assume she's not that naive when it comes to Kpop salaries.

This election should be interesting - I mean who is left? and frankly who cares anymore. Jurina got #1 and was barely there for fans to enjoy it. Why waste all that money again. Sakura, Sasshi, Sayanee, Yuki, Juri, Kojima Mako, Nako, & Hitomi will all be gone or no-shows.

Also- consider the P48 Korean factor. Bibian, Miru, & Erii will have and added push because Koreans liked them.

While girls like Komiyama Haruka and Ryoha Kitagawa might finally get noticed - the senbatsu is probably going to be 60% SKE girls 40% HKT & NGT girls- Is there anyone in AKB proper with anything to sell?

Juri & Mako are getting out before the tent falls - There's nothing exciting about AKB anymore- It really needs NEW management. AKS just does not care about building a future...until the handshakes stop.

    S
The truth is she's ungrateful and making a mistake. Just because BTS is successful that doesn't mean everyone in kpop is.

Juri got blinded by PD48 and greed.
She was the captain the example and had a pretty darn good position in AKB.

She s leaving a million selling group on the biggest (sometimes 2nd biggest) music market in the world for what ? A debut with Wollim ? LMAO. That poor girl . That company isn't even BIG. Their groups are all currently flops that don't sell more than 100k copies. Infinite had one hit song and they never reached top tier group level. They are a middle group at best. Lovelyz never reached popularity.

Even if Juri got in a group that hit it big. Well. Look at twice and how much they sell 400k at most.
So the biggest group in kpop can't even sell half a million lol.
And they work like crazy. In Japan the girls get to be with their families get to do their own things their makeup their lives are so much easier. In Korea you don't . It's insane and way overworked. Not to mention kpop groups go overseas because Korea is small..no way they can profit on their country alone.

Add to that most kpop fans are girls and boys aren't loyal . They change groups every other year. While Japanese fans are more loyal. Even after being married there are there for momusu og for example. That wouldn't fly on kpop .

She thinks because BTS is everywhere that she's gonna be THIS huge star. Once reality hits her and she's stuck in a flop group that's overworked to the bone..... she'll regret leaving AKB and team b.

Just a matter of time. Dumb dumb choice.

Honestly I understand her, she tasted the honey once and now she's tantalized. Kpop fans are flashy in promoting their faves, they gave her expensive stuffs (and money) when all she did was participating in a show. She got to dress in a sexy way (let's be real, most young woman wants to dress like a girl crush), put on thicker makeup that looks cool, and got to meet 'handsome' Korean (the male judges and MC).

But it's a stupid decision imo. Kpop idol make zero money until you paid off the training debt (she will have to train if all she got is her AKB skill), have no privacy (at least 48G wotas respect their Idol's privacy), their schedule is even crazier than 48G senbatsu member's schedule. Moreover, Jpop (and Japanese) haters won't leave her alone. Since the news broke out I have already seen tons of comments making fun of her egg face visual, short and plump body, cringy P48 wink, talentless singing and dancing. And her agency Woolim haven't produced any BIG group yet, Infinite was great but never got crazy famous (L is prolly the only popular member) in fact they're declining (their latest comeback is flop), Lovelyz is also not getting anywhere and will slowly be buried (which is a pity tbh), and we don't need to talk about Golden Child.
Is she hoping to debut with Eunbi and Chaewon so she need to train until IZ*ONE disbanded? She's not young anymore so is Eunbi, next challenge will be their age. Frankly speaking looking back at P101 S1 I doubt this upcoming group will hit it big, Chungha and maybe Somi too are the only successful members that actually made headlines.

PS: I am disappointed that Juri as a captain of Team B (which is known for having strong bond with fans) could do sth like this.

I'm glad to see some people pointing out some hard realities of the k-pop industry. I used to be hardcore kpop and still love some groups but it seems to me like a much tougher world with not a lot of reward. That being said, even though I'm not hype about her going there, I hope she is successful.
