AKB48 official website announce the group will not hold General Election in 2019.

AKB48 General Election (also known as Senbatsu Sousenkyo) was AKB48 group's most significant event since 2009, which the fans could vote for their favorite AKB48, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48, NGT48, STU48 members into single lineup. After the votes are submitted, the 80 members who received the most votes were announced on the day of the election. These top 16 members who got the most votes would be selected for AKB48's next single's title track, while the 1st place winner would serve the CENTER position. Generally, the fans and people would regard the General Election winner as the most popular member of the whole group.

Winners of AKB48 General Election:

The 1st General Election Winner (2009): Maeda Atsuko
The 2nd General Election Winner (2010): Oshima Yuko
The 3rd General Election Winner (2011): Maeda Atsuko
The 4th General Election Winner (2012): Oshima Yuko
The 5th General Election Winner (2013): Sashihara Rino

Has heard about this before in 48Talk. Sad to hear that this year there won't be Senbatsu Sousenkyo to watch. Hope there will be one next year.

I guess all the scandals this year makes no ssk. Management should just go on a retreat to see whats wrong with their management style...

It's kinda frustrating because i do enjoy the guessing senbatsu member discussion on akb48 forum.
But look on the brighter side, the won't be any complaint about a mountain trash of akb cd that usually found after sounsenkyo.
And the most important thing wotas can save their money this year.

This is actually the only way for fans to help their oshi get the spotlight (eg Dasu, Tomu, Akarin, Hinatan etc). I'm glad at least Jurina sat at the throne once (she thrived for a decade to sit there), but at the same time I'm sad because I can feel that there will be more unmotivated members, so I guess this means more members will be graduating. I'm wondering what will happen to their pre ssk Summer single, will they resort to a bikini single again to maintain the sales?

Is this a case of the risk out weighing the reward? You ever wonder if AKB simply does not care anymore? It's like there were two AKB's - the ones AKS cared about & every other idol. You can't blame the originals for this but there was a conscious effort to overlook virtually 95% of the next gens and just slap in sister group aces. Paruru and Kawaei were the last AKB girls to get the classic AKB treatment and it's like AKS stopped caring after they both left.

This is really disturbing for Idols that have played by the rules and simply wait all year for their #50-25 rank- what is their to strive for now? You'll never get an A-Side, AKBingo is toast, Sister groups swoop in & steal your limelight why show up at all. Unless you just want theater experience or like being in stage plays why both with AKB48 anymore.

Just sell AKB48 to someone who cares. They're milking this for nostalgia now and it's getting pathetic.

If Mahohon gets support from her parents and manages to survive such evil filth and she participates in the election WE WILL MAKE HER TOP 7 SENBATSU, YOU CAN BET ON IT. Either this or next year.

What's happening to akb48? are they really going down the slope?

It’s no shocking since there will be no interesting competition in sousenkyou this year. Since Sasshi-Mayuyu’s battle ended, fhey switched it to Jurina-Sakura’s battle but Sakura chose to join iZone and Jurina-Dasu or Jurina-Nachan’s battle was quite irrelevant. The line up for the next single will be interesting since it’s usually determined by ssk’s result. I bet that they will put more new AKB48’s members like they did in 55th single

And here in manila.... there is an uproar for the sister group here in manila...

sousenkyou here is different... they will choose who will be staying... as they had an audition again this year.... this year's general election will decide who from the first generation and from the said audition will be in the top48 which are will be called "the second generation members"

its not a battle like we are all excited for like in akb48....
its a sad election that whether the handshake event could be the last handshake afterall....

Well since you all might not mattern since you only matter for other 48 group.... some people call MNL48 as AKS' guinea pig.... what happens in our sousenkyou might be testing grounds for the next akb48 sousenkyou

and another one regarding my last comment....(although you all don't matter) those who will not be in the top 48 of the sousenkyou will not be a mnl48 member nor a kenkyuusei this year...
