If worldwide means Vietnam or Thailand or Indonesia, then her dream may come true.

Well, I think she's being ambitious and it's not a bad thing. Since SKE48 has done a lot in Japan and going international would be a logical step but it has to do a lot to make itself palatable to international music taste.

I know this will sound negative but if AKB48 couldn't go global with powers of "AKS" - why would SKE48 suddenly have the wind beneath their wings. This isn't a slap at Jurina but she took almost a year off- the whole Idol game changed. If the SSK & Produce MNet series was too grueling - how would handle the stress of International press, tour, media, ect.

SKE doesn't even have a Marquee Anthem like AKB's "Heavy Rotation" & "KFC"- Outside of Japan who knows a thing about SKE48? The same could be said for NMB48 & HKT48. If Jurina means Asia itself sure but they're not going to Coachella, the UK or the USA like Black Pink or TWICE any time soon (if ever).

I admire her enthusiasm but this is not the 7th inning stretch

Does she mean worldwide like the popularity of Kpop? Well, first thing they should do is to not restrict the 48G/46G YouTube official videos.

If they truly go international (other than neighboring Asian countries) there will definitely be new fans even if they keep the same style of music. LoveLive is quite big in America and the newer BangDream is catching on with Poppin Party and Roselia.

worldwide, as in asia?... even though kpop is popular, not all of them are popular worldwide... even less for girl groups..
some jpop groups/bands are well-known, but girl groups with hundreds of members... idk rick

I interpreted go worldwide as being known as 'SKE48' not just AKB48's sister/branch. It's not an impossible dream, we have Keyakizaka46 - a group that managed to get more attention than Nogizaka46 internationally.
But ofc, frankly speaking it will be really hard unless J got a job in South Korea to help her (ngl Kpop is better at promoting to international market), like what Chiba Erii doing right now. J was Top 4 in term of popularity (YouTube Fancam for PD48 with only two videos), and her fans are mostly women which are known to be more loyal in Kpop, she has the potential but SKE as a whole might be difficult.

if she means on the scale of kpop i know it wouldnt work. western people justdont like the sound of japanese idols - they like the mature sound of kpop. (talking about strictly the music) the reason they dont already have traction in the US and other places is because ske and the japanese idol style are not appealing to americans

@experiencedcyclist I'm not sure about the 'appeal' part, anime are extremely popular in the states & Europe as well, and before the Hallyu wave (before 2006 I guess?) Jpop are more desired worldwide. Some groups like Perfume, X Japan, One OK Rock, BabyMetal etc are still appreciated there (they regularly hold concert overseas). More importantly, I don't think Japanese song need to be mature to appeal (but if they wanted sth mature from 48/46 we have STU48, Nogizaka46, Keyakizaka46). Fyi Kpop top groups like Twice, Red Velvet (their Red side) and GFriend (GF basically is Jpop but singing in Korea) also have many cute and childish songs. A group called Dreamcatcher is hands down Jrock, and Crayon Pop was a cheaper version of MomoClo. Heck, have you watched the debut video of a super-rookie group called TXT which is a brother group of BTS? That's the definition of childish imo.

The main reason why Jpop is less popular now is due to their copyright infringement. It's harder to access Japanese stuff (I think only NMB is on iTunes? Are they even on Spotify?), YouTube videos are also restricted in some countries (USA included) and most of the time they don't post full version vid. But hey, Japan is still the 2nd biggest market in the world. If one day their government decided to remove the policy, it would be easy for them to take over the world.

How can I be so confident? Look at the popularity of Japanese trainees for PD48 and compare them to the Korean trainees. Even girls who managed to debut like Doah, Yiren, Sihyeon are still pale in comparison. Idol doesn't necessarily need to appeal with song, it's about their characters and that also applies to Kpop.

Biggest problem for 48/46 Group expanding outside of Asia is the difference in the demographics of fans they will have to appeal to. Kpop is only somewhat successful (they tend to over-exaggerate their popularity overseas) is because they cater to the primary pop music girl/boy group demographic - preteen to teen/early 20's females. 48/46 Group's primary fan demographic is men aged mid 20's to middle age and maybe beyond. Due to cultural differences, that demographic is nearly impossible to cultivate outside East/SE Asia- especially in Western countries. So unless 48/46 Group plays by the Kpop girl group game plan and targets a largely female fanbase internationally, it will never happen .
